About Okugawa Shuemon (1901-1975

Born in Arita, Okugawa Chuemon I (1901–1975) was renowned for his exceptional skill in throwing large-scale white porcelain works entirely by hand. After training under Ide Kinsaku, he taught at the Arita Industrial School for 12 years before founding his own kiln. Throughout his career, he exhibited at national exhibitions such as Nitten and was designated an Intangible Cultural Asset of Saga Prefecture in 1961.
